Mission Statement
The mission of the International Graduate Peer Advisor program is to support incoming international graduate students with their adjustment to Tufts and the US through peer-to-peer support and guidance. Through peers, students will learn about resources for navigating Tufts and will be able to build an inclusive community and connect with one another.
Graduate Peer Advisor Program
The role of the International Graduate Peer Advisor program is to support international graduate students through peer-to-peer connections. Peer Advisors are other graduate students who have first-hand knowledge of the Tufts campus and university environment. They work to connect international graduate students to campus resources and other academic and extracurricular opportunities through a series of virtual information sessions over the summer and an in-person social event in the fall. Peer Advisors are an important resource who can provide additional insight into how graduate international students can enhance their overall experience at Tufts. This year, the program is supporting students from the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, the Graduate School of Engineering, and the Boston Health Sciences campus.
Contact a Peer Advisor to talk about:
- Where to go to get information about various issues and concerns, such as academic, personal, or financial support
- Identify ways to connect to campus extracurricular or other activities
- Learn how to get practical advice on navigating the Tufts environment or pursuing different academic and professional opportunities
- Get informal opinions and advice about how to make the most of your Tufts experience
- Get insights into making friends and facilitating social interactions
Peer Advisors do not provide advice on complex immigration, health, psychological, or related private and confidential matters. However, they can provide directions to appropriate campus resources.

Hello! I’m Nothando, a graduate student at the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University and originally from Zimbabwe. Moving to a new country for graduate school can be exciting, but it can also feel overwhelming at times. As a Graduate Peer Advisor, I hope to help make that transition a little easier by sharing my experiences and helping you find your footing at Tufts and in the US. I’m happy to answer questions, point you toward helpful resources, and support you as you adjust to student life. I enjoy meeting new people, learning about different cultures, and trying new foods from around the world.
