To department managers and hiring units of H-1B temporary workers:
On September 30, the President signed theĀ H.R. 8337 Continuing Appropriations Act, 2021 and Other Extensions Act, which included provisions affecting US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) processing of visa and immigration petitions. Importantly, among the provisions is an increase in the I-907 premium processing fee from $1,440 to $2,500. This increase goes into effect on October 19, 2020. Any premium processing request submitted on or after October 19 must include the new fee.
The I-907 premium processing fee expedites USCIS processing significantly for a variety of immigration and visa petitions. For Tufts departments and hiring units, the principal impact will relate to premium processing of H-1B temporary worker visa petitions for international employees - including faculty, researchers, and staff - hired to specialty occupations at the University.
Managers with concerns about this sudden and substantial increase in the premium processing fee should contact our H-1B specialists, including Associate Director Ghenwa Hakim (serving Boston Health Sciences campus and central administration units) and Senior Immigration SpecialistĀ Sarah Curry (serving Medford / SMFA, Cummings, and Fletcher).
Sincerely,
Tufts International Center
