International Scholars and Employees
Welcome to Tufts!
If you are a new or incoming international scholar or employee, please refer to the information below regarding visa and immigration matters.
International Center Visa Services
The Tufts International Center handles all visa procedures for individuals requiring visa sponsorship by the University.
To qualify for visa sponsorship, you must be invited to come to Tufts University as a self-funded visiting scholar or scientist or hired as an employee of the University in a research, teaching, or staff role. Your Tufts department will be responsible for starting the appropriate visa process for you. The visa options available will depend on your specific role and situation at Tufts. For more information about the visa application process, click on one of the two links below.
- J-1 Visiting Scholar Program for self-funded visiting scholars and scientists (non-employees)
- International Employees including post-doctoral scholars, faculty, administrators, and staff
Department managers are encouraged to review our Department Sponsorship Guide and reach out to the appropriate International Center advisor for assistance in starting a visa process for a visiting scholar or employee. If unsure where to start, please send us an email with your questions.
Tufts Medical Center: The International Center is only processing J-1 visa requests for joint TUSM/TMC appointments. All other requests must be directed to the TMC administration. Effective January 2022, departments hiring international employees under H-1B sponsorship should contact Goss Associates for additional information.
