Required Documents & Registration
Updated: March 28, 2025
USCIS announced a new Alien Registration Requirement on February 25th and updated on March 12th requiring nonimmigrants to register. You can read more about the USCIS notice on their website. In addition to this notice, USCIS is requiring that all individuals carry their registration requirements. This is not new a new requirement but has been recently reinforced. Generally speaking individuals who entered the United States over the age of 14 and who have an I-94 are not required to re-register.
The requirement to carry documents states "Every alien, eighteen years of age and over, shall at all times carry with him and have in his personal possession any certificate of alien registration or alien registration receipt card issued to him pursuant to subsection (d). Any alien who fails to comply with the provisions of this subsection shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and shall upon conviction for each offense be fined not to exceed $100 or be imprisoned not more than thirty days, or both."
Generally speaking the documents required for this are an individuals’ I-94 and visa document (Form I-20, Form DS-2019 or I-797 Approval Notice).
