This is a general travel advisory for Tufts University's international students, scholars, and their family members regarding the COVID-19 coronavirus and its impact on international travel. The worldwide spread of COVID-19 beyond its initial concentration in Wuhan, China has generated understandable concern, anxiety, and uncertainty. COVID-19 has proven to be unpredictable, and the impact of the virus - as well as various international and national responses to its spread - remains extremely fluid and dynamic. It is essential for all students, scholars, and their dependents to plan travel under the assumption that travel restrictions and on-the-ground conditions in different countries may change suddenly, and with little to no advance notice. In addition to US government restrictions, other countries - as well as international airlines - are reacting in different ways, and travel recommendations may vary depending on individual situations and plans. While the International Center will make every effort to communicate changes as they occur, we are unable to predict or guarantee travel outcomes given the rapidly-changing nature of the current situation.

What are the current US travel suspensions?

At present, the US government has temporarily suspended the entry of most foreign nationals who were physically present in the following countries:

  • China (as of Feb 5, 2020): entry suspended for persons who were physically present in China within the 14 day period before seeking entry into the US
  • Iran (as of Mar 2, 2020): entry suspended for persons who were physically present in Iran within the 14 day period before seeking entry into the US

Other countries being monitored carefully include South Korea, Italy, where significant numbers of cases have emerged. In addition, Japan and Hong Kong remain under watch.
