Dear incoming students,

Please review the following message regarding Pre-Orientation 2020:

"On behalf of the Pre-Orientation team, I want to say welcome to Tufts! We are so excited to have you as part of our community!

We are writing today to inform you that Pre-Orientation 2020 is being moved to a virtual experience that is free of cost to all students. We believe strongly in the positive impact our Pre-Orientation programs have in the new student experience and because of that, we are committed to offering this opportunity to all of you. After careful consideration, it has been determined that in order to ensure the health and safety of our community and maintain the goals and values of our programs, a virtual experience is the best option.

This decision has been made independent of an announcement from the university regarding plans for the fall because of the necessary time needed to plan and redesign our programs. Each of our eight programs depend on many community partnerships - including various organizations, businesses, and vendors in the Greater Boston Area and throughout New England. At this point in time, there are too many unknowns regarding those partnerships to move forward with in-person Pre-Orientation.

Learn more about the benefits of a virtual Pre-Orientation experience:

As we shift to virtual programming, in addition to offering the experience at no-cost to students, those interested will still have the opportunity to select the program of their choice.

We are confident that the primary goals of Pre-Orientation remain achievable:

Building connections to your peers - Our programs consist of small groups that give students the opportunity to get to know one another on a deeper level than all-student orientation allows.
Gaining support and guidance from returning students - We have 300+ returning student leaders who remain excited and committed to welcoming you all to campus.
Getting to know Tufts University - Student leaders will introduce you to the values of our community, as well as help you understand what you can expect of day-to-day life at Tufts.
Exploring an interest -Whether it’s service, social-justice, health and wellness, or one of the many offerings Tufts Pre-Orientation provides, our programs will continue with programming focused on your interests.
While we await more information about the fall semester, there are still a number of unknowns for Pre-Orientation. We do not have official dates of when we will run our programs, but are hopeful that we can provide them soon after we learn more. Additionally, we are working hard to design this year's virtual experience and will communicate updates about what you can expect as we have them.
