COVID-19 Test Required Prior to Entry to the US

Dear International Students and Scholars:

On January 12, 2021, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued a new order relating to international arrival in the US. According to this order, effective January 26 anyone flying to the US must present evidence of a viral test within 3 days of their flight, and provide written evidence to their airline of a negative test result or COVID-19 recovery. From the CDC order:

Air passengers are required to get a viral test (a test for current infection) within the 3 days before their flight to the U.S. departs, and provide written documentation of their laboratory test result (paper or electronic copy) to the airline or provide documentation of having recovered from COVID-19. Airlines must confirm the negative test result for all passengers or documentation of recovery before they board. If a passenger does not provide documentation of a negative test or recovery, or chooses not to take a test, the airline must deny boarding to the passenger.

The International Center is monitoring the implementation of this order, but we recognize that students and scholars planning on coming to the US on or after January 26 may need to take additional steps in planning their arrival to the US. Please keep in touch with us as additional information becomes available.

Sincerely,

Tufts International Center
