In order to improve oversight of Tufts University's J-1 Exchange Visitor Program, P-1-00829, effective July 1, 2024 Tuft University will discontinue direct sponsorship of J-1 exchange visitors for participation in programs based exclusively in third party sites. Any new request will require the sponsored visitor to hold a University appointment to a temporary teaching or research position such as visiting scholar / scientist, visiting professor, adjunct lecturer, or similar title. Requests for J-1 visa certification must be initiated by a University department or unit.
Existing restrictions that prohibit the use of the J-1 Exchange Visitor visa for permanent (tenure-track or the equivalent) positions, as well as positions that involve direct patient care, remain in place.
