On April 11, the Department of Homeland Security created a new Form (Form G-325R) as part of a new enforcement of the Alien Registration Requirement. The requirement is that all “aliens” who have entered the United States for more than 30 days should register with the Department of Homeland Security. However, please be aware that:

  • Everyone who has entered the United States and has received an I-94 is already registered.
  • Everyone who has entered the United States and has applied for a visa at a US Consulate is already registered.

Accordingly, we don’t anticipate that this new rule will impact many members of the community except in limited scenarios described below. You may be required to register if:

    • You or your dependent arrived to the U.S. before the age of 14 and subsequently turned 14 in the United States (re-registration required within 30 days regardless of whether registered prior)
    • You are Canadian citizens and were never issued an I-94 (paper or electronic) upon entering the country. Canadian citizens who enter the United States using a land port of entry should check their I-94 upon return to ensure they were given a new I-94 upon entry.

In these limited cases, you should refer to the instructions for filing form G-325R within 30 days of April 11th.
