Documentation: What to Carry
Thursday, April, 3rd, 2025 Immigration News and Updates
Immigration law requires nonimmigrants and lawful permanent residents over 18 years old to carry proof of immigration registration while inside the U.S. For most non-immigrant visa holders, this is a print-out of your most-recent I-94 from your latest entry to the U.S. If you have changed your status within the U.S. since your last entry, you should also carry a copy of your USCIS Approval notice.
Because immigration enforcement is increasing, the International Center also recommends that you carry other pertinent immigration documents on your person at all times, even if you are not re-entering the U.S. Original versions are preferrable but, if unable to do so, you may carry photocopies and/or copies on your electronic device. These documents include your passport with your visa and, for F-1 and J-1 students and scholars, your I-20 or DS-2019. You can find more information about immigration documents by visa category here, including information for Tufts-sponsored employees.
