Congratulations to this year’s recipient of the Oliver Chapman Award, Alexander Crété!

Each year, the International Club, along with International Center Peer Advisors, and former GO leaders with the support of the International Center, chooses and awards the Oliver Chapman Leadership and Community Service Award. Since its inception in 1993, the Chapman Award recognizes a senior who has demonstrated leadership through involvement in the international community at Tufts.

Alex was nominated for his many extraordinary contributions to the international community at Tufts including his active involvement as an Intercultural Conversation Program mentor, in I-Club – he served on the e-board and as both Vice President and co-President this year, helping organize the I-Gala and Parade of Nations – and as a GO pre-orientation Coordinator and two time Host Advisor. He was also a member of the Japanese Culture Club and a French Society liaison.

A few of his nominators wrote, “Alex continues to be a pillar of inclusion in the international community. He is always curious about learning more about other cultures and people. He is respectful and understanding of the nuances and complexities of international politics and always does his best to focus on the people of the culture if/when tensions arise, ensuring there is room for all at the table” and “he genuinely cares about the people around him and cherishes every connection he makes. There is no feeling better than being appreciated and respected, and that is how Alex makes people around him feel.”
