Estimate of Expenses: Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy
Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy Estimate of Expenses (EOE)
Updated: June 20, 2024
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY
For students attending the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy requesting F-1 or J-1 student visa sponsorship from Tufts University. To qualify for a Form I-20 (for the F-1 student visa) or Form DS-2019 (for the J-1 Exchange Visitor visa) from Tufts, you are required to provide financial documents that show you have sufficient financial resources to meet the required tuition, fees, and living expenses for at least the first academic year (two semesters) of your program, or the entire program amount, if your US-based program time is less than one year. Your documents must show that your resources meet or exceed the total amount listed in the Estimate of Expenses (EOE) table listed below for your degree program.
Begin by reading through the instructions below and finding your Estimate of Expenses table for your program.
When preparing your financial documents, please be aware of the following:
- Read carefully information about acceptable financial documents that may be used when applying for your I-20 or DS-2019. All financial documents need to be written in English or accompanied by an English-language translation. Submitting non-accepted documents will delay issuance of your I-20 or DS-2019.
- Unless otherwise stated, the EOE reflects the estimated minimum for full-time study for an academic year (or for your program length, if less than an academic year) as needed to qualify for F-1 or J-1 visa sponsorship. Your actual cost of attendance may be higher depending on your enrollment history and individual needs.
- All figures relating to Tufts tuition and fees are estimates until approved by the Tufts Board of Trustees in May 2023.
- The EOE does NOT include visa or travel expenses including any visa application fees, passport fees, the I-901 (SEVIS) fee, cost of travel (including travel for initial arrival, winter and summer vacations, etc.), or summer expenses if you plan to remain in the US during the summer.
- Your funding documents must reflect the financial resources available upon your arrival at Fletcher School. Please do not include a pending educational loan or scholarship as your fund until fully approved and available for you.
- For programs lasting more than one academic year: while you are only required to show funding for your first academic year, you should develop a realistic financial plan for the entire program. Keep in mind the following and plan carefully, as any interruption of studies due to loss of funding may impact your ability to remain in the US:
- International students must study full-time every fall and spring semester and have only limited options for getting financial resources through work.
- On-campus work is restricted to part-time (not to exceed 20 hours per week), and the number of available on-campus jobs is limited. Off-campus work is not permitted for the first year of full-time study in the US.
- Unless otherwise guaranteed in writing, offers of on-campus employment may not be used to qualify for I-20 or DS-2019 issuance.
